IT/ITES buildings are critical infrastructure that house mission-critical systems and sensitive data. These buildings present unique challenges for safety, security, and building automation, as responsibility for infrastructure is shared between the base building and individual occupants. This environment provides a two tier approach to the safety, security and automation needs of the occupants.
The first level offered by the builder/ developer to the occupants typically include common area fire alarm and PA system, access control at the perimeter building for vehicles, access control at lift lobby for the occupants and centralized AC with air handling units at each occupant’s floor with its own control system. The second level of safety, security and automation is left to the individual occupants based on their requirement and preferences.
There is an important need for integrating the two levels to ensure that the occupants and the facility maintained are safe and secure. This would translate to: Integration of the level 1 & level 2 safety systems, i.e. any alarm in of the two levels must be reflected in the other, cause and effect of both levels of the safety systems with the corresponding HVAC / Lift / PA systems to be clearly established and a single access card to work seamlessly across both Level 1 & Level 2.
Spot fire detection and public address systems commonly cover common areas in buildings, such as lobbies, corridors, and stairwells.
It is crucial to integrate fire alarm systems installed in occupants’ spaces with the base building system to ensure that any alarms are promptly detected and responded to.
